Invisalign® is an Adult Braces Option

InvisalignInvisalign® is an adult braces option, in fact, it is an excellent option. This is because Invisalign® takes into consideration the concerns and lifestyle many adults have. Rather than asking for patients to change their lifestyle in order to straighten their teeth, we can offer this solution that works within their lifestyle.

Here is how it works

Invisalign® uses a series of clear plastic aligners that are meant to surround the teeth. They fit snuggly and put pressure on the teeth to move them into the correct position. This does not happen overnight. Instead, teeth are moved in a series of steps. Each step is accomplished using a new aligner in the series. If they are worn in sequence, teeth will continue their progression from being crooked to straight.

Individual aligners are typically only worn for around two weeks. After that, they become loose and that is a sign to change to the next aligners in the series. Because these aligners are switched out at home, the patient needs to visit a dental professional less frequently. This is highly beneficial for busy adults.

There is treatment flexibility

One reason that Invisalign® is an adult braces option is that the aligners are designed to be removed when eating and brushing teeth. As long as they are worn for 20 to 22 hours a day, the treatment should continue to remain on schedule. The good news is that the aligners come out so it gives adult patients incredible levels of flexibility over when they wear the aligners.

However, this level of flexibility requires a greater level of accountability and responsibility. Patients are responsible for remembering to wear the aligners and keep them in as long as possible. This is difficult for children and adolescents, making Invisalign® a more appropriate solution for adult patients.

The aligners are virtually invisible

Another reason Invisalign® is an adult braces option that is growing in popularity is that the aligners are nearly invisible. If the aligners and a patient's teeth are kept clean, it will be difficult or even impossible to notice them when a patient is speaking or smiling. We have found this to be very important for our adult patients who are concerned about how traditional braces can make them look.

They are just as effective

Even though Invisalign® is a more attractive and convenient solution than traditional braces, it is just as effective for addressing most issues. Invisalign® is an adult braces option that can close gaps in between teeth, straighten crooked ones and help to align a person's bite. Likewise, the treatment time is roughly the same as that of wearing braces.

Anyone who wishes to maintain flexibility and control of their treatment should consider Invisalign®. For those who want set solutions that they do not have to think about, braces may be a better option.
